The phones were a trap the Vikings kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.
Everything downstream of Jayden Daniels depends on Jayden Daniels, and the building knows it. For all the activity, safety went untouched, which is hard to explain. Every board in the league had King lower, and that gap is the story.
Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
About as rough as a weekend gets on paper, with safety still staring back at them.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center. The biggest hole, addressed.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Laiatu Latu. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
In No. 23 they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. More want than need.
Braden Fiske in pick 43 lands just on the right side of the ledger. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No edge and no loss on Xavier Worthy in the 44th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at Round 3, Pick 7 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Sedrick Van Pran in pick No. 77 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Maason Smith at the 108th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A straight-up fair deal on Cornelius Johnson at No. 157, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Kalen King at the 177th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Brevyn Spann-Ford in pick 257 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
