The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Vikings spent their marquee pick on J.J. McCarthy, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
Lee has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. However the rest shakes out, Mahogany at that price is a win they earned.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 11 they get an anchor for the defensive front. A clean fit for the roster.
In slot 23 they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A slide stopped in Round 4, Pick 8, with Christian Mahogany worth more than the price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Dallin Holker. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Steele Chambers in the Round 5 slot, miles early. A minor itch, scratched.
Kamal Hadden at No. 167 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Javion Cohen at the 177th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Frank Gore Jr. at pick No. 230 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A big swing on Matt Lee at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
