Minnesota Vikings

Jackson should have been long gone. The Vikings pounced, and earned a B-.

The rest of the league will want that one back. Domani Jackson tumbling to the Vikings in the 196th pick is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Durant has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.18 · Pick 18 · Arvell Reese · LB · rank 7
In the 18th pick they get a green-dot type in the middle at a price that makes it sweeter.
R2.27 · Pick 59 · A.J. Haulcy · S · rank 50
A.J. Haulcy in slot 59 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.18 · Pick 82 · Jonah Coleman · RB · rank 66
Jonah Coleman is a better player than pick No. 82 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R3.33 · Pick 97 · Logan Jones · C · rank 91
Nothing to complain about; Logan Jones went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.23 · Pick 163 · Zane Durant · DT · rank 177
The board had cheaper options than Zane Durant at pick 163, and it noticed. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R6.15 · Pick 196 · Domani Jackson · CB · rank 174
Circle this one: Domani Jackson at Round 6, Pick 15 is a fall that decides a draft. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R7.18 · Pick 234 · Jaren Kanak · TE · rank 225
Value with a capital V on Jaren Kanak in the 234th overall pick, a genuine coup. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R7.19 · Pick 235 · Andre Fuller · CB · rank 232
Andre Fuller at No. 235 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
R7.28 · Pick 244 · Brent Austin · CB · rank 234
Brent Austin at No. 244 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
