Somebody in No. 130 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Vikings sat still while Khyree Jackson, the No. 104 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
If Sundell pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through safety. The Vikings indulged a want in Solomon while a need in safety, running back and other spots stayed open.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 11 they get a disruptive interior force. A clean fit for the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Kris Jenkins at the 42nd pick, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went OLB-EDGE with Javon Solomon while clear needs at safety, running back and other spots sat open.
Khyree Jackson at slot 130 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They left a pile of value on the table to take LaDarius Henderson this early at the 145th pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Joe Milton III at pick 157 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They talked themselves into Javon Baker at the Round 5 slot, and the board did not agree. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid sticker price for Nathan Thomas in the 179th overall pick, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jalen Sundell in No. 227 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
