Minnesota Vikings

Milton III should have been long gone. The Vikings pounced, and earned a D.

The Vikings lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D.

If Braswell pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. On value alone, Milton III makes the weekend a net positive.

The Vikings clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.

A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.22 · Pick 22 · Byron Murphy II · DL · rank 20
In pick 22 they get a run-stuffing presence up front. A clean fit for the roster.
R1.28 · Pick 28 · Chris Braswell · LB-EDGE · rank 41
In No. 28 they get a double-digit-sack hope, though they paid up to get him. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R1.31 · Pick 31 · Darius Robinson · DL-EDGE · rank 37
In the 31st pick they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.23 · Pick 55 · J.J. McCarthy · QB · rank 46
Value with a capital V on J.J. McCarthy in slot 55, a genuine coup. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.27 · Pick 90 · DJ James · CB · rank 87
A tidy little value on DJ James in the 90th overall pick, a step better than break-even. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R3.31 · Pick 94 · Dadrion Taylor-Demerson · S · rank 83
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson is a better player than pick No. 94 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.9 · Pick 109 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 109
They took Braelon Allen at par in the 109th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R4.22 · Pick 122 · Javon Foster · OT · rank 121
By-the-book stuff, Javon Foster at pick No. 122 squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · Tyrone Tracy Jr. · WR · rank 122
Tyrone Tracy Jr. in pick 130 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It fills a real need, too.
R5.10 · Pick 146 · Kalen King · CB · rank 140
They did well to land Kalen King in No. 146, just ahead of his grade. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R5.20 · Pick 156 · Xavier Thomas · DE-EDGE · rank 154
No edge and no loss on Xavier Thomas in the 156th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.25 · Pick 161 · Dallin Holker · TE · rank 158
Dallin Holker in Round 5, Pick 25 lands just on the right side of the ledger. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.30 · Pick 166 · Javion Cohen · OG · rank 168
Javion Cohen in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.34 · Pick 170 · Ty'Ron Hopper · LB · rank 177
No drama and no debate, Ty'Ron Hopper went about where he belonged in slot 170. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R6.4 · Pick 179 · Sione Vaki · S · rank 169
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Sione Vaki at pick 179. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.15 · Pick 190 · Jordan Jefferson · DT · rank 186
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jordan Jefferson in pick No. 190. The roster fit checks out.
R7.4 · Pick 224 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 199
Circle this one: Joe Milton III at No. 224 is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
