The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
They punted on safety, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Suamataia steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th overall pick they get their guy under center for the next decade. A clean fit for the roster.
In pick No. 21 they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. More want than need.
A straight-up fair deal on Leonard Taylor III at slot 34, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Value with a capital V on Kingsley Suamataia in the 68th pick, a genuine coup. It fills a real need, too.
They paid sticker price for Braelon Allen in No. 103, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No drama and no debate, Shemar Turner went about where he belonged in pick 139. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
De'Corian Clark at the Round 6 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Zakhari Franklin at Round 7, Pick 4 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
