The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Packers reached some 48 spots for Antwaun Powell-Ryland, and value like that does not grow back.
Getting Cypress II where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 21 they get an island corner at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They paid up for Tyler Guyton at pick No. 41 when waiting would have done the job. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
No drama and no debate, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. went about where he belonged in the 57th pick. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Jonathon Brooks at slot 88 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They left a pile of value on the table to take James Williams this early at Round 3, Pick 29. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Beaux Limmer in pick 125 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
By-the-book stuff, Javion Cohen at Round 4, Pick 35 squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
A wild overpay on Antwaun Powell-Ryland in the 203rd pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Value said wait; Donell Harris Jr. in the Round 6 slot says they were not listening. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Trey Wedig in No. 219 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Value with a capital V on Fentrell Cypress II in the 246th overall pick, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
