You could see the war room lean forward. Johnny Dixon at the Round 6 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. The David Bakhtiari deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 22 they get a press-man option on the boundary. The biggest hole, addressed.
Edgerrin Cooper at the 50th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Braelon Allen in Round 4, Pick 20. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A tidy little value on Sione Vaki in pick No. 161, a step better than break-even. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Layden Robinson in the Round 5 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Dillon Johnson in No. 172. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
You do not let a cornerback like Johnny Dixon reach the 210th pick and blink. They did not. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
