Nobody had Jordan Travis this high, and it is not close. The Giants reached 66 spots to get him at the 107th pick.
Williams at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with interior defensive lineman chief among the fixes.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th overall pick they get a difference-maker at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Max Melton at No. 70 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They liked Blake Corum enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 71. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board had Renardo Green higher than the 90th pick, and the safety fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They reached a country mile for Jordan Travis at Round 4, Pick 7, and the board is aghast. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Matt Goncalves in the Round 5 slot, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
James Williams in the Round 6 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
You do not let a safety like Beau Brade reach the 186th overall pick and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at pick 226 is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
