The Patriots did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Chau Smith-Wade fell into pick No. 193. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
The whole projection now runs through Jayden Daniels; hit there and everything else looks smarter. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd pick they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
Olumuyiwa Fashanu in the 34th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They will replay Xavier Legette at pick No. 68 for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board fumbled Javon Bullard all the way to the 103rd pick, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 137 with a little surplus value in Sataoa Laumea. The roster fit checks out.
Braiden McGregor in slot 180 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A cornerback of that caliber at No. 193 is the definition of value, full stop. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
The board had cheaper options than Bub Means at Round 7, Pick 11, and it noticed. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
