The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Raiders spent their marquee pick on Cam Ward, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
The Sampson pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Job largely done: cornerback settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
A straight-up fair deal on Cam Ward at slot 6, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Matthew Golden at No. 37 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Taking Jihaad Campbell in pick No. 68 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
No drama and no debate, Maxwell Hairston went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A running back of that caliber at Round 4, Pick 5 is the definition of value, full stop. The roster fit checks out.
Jonah Monheim at the 142nd pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
