Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Thor Griffith at pick No. 249 is 61 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
Nelson at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 12 they get a wrecking ball inside. A clean fit for the roster.
A tidy little value on Jihaad Campbell in Round 2, Pick 12, a step better than break-even. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Cam Skattebo at pick 89 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Simeon Barrow Jr. at the 150th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jack Nelson in the 170th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They jumped the gun on Dont'e Thornton Jr., taking him earlier than his grade liked. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reach for Connor Colby in the 174th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Roc Taylor in the Round 6 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Thor Griffith in pick No. 249 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
