The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Commanders spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
However the rest shakes out, Mitchell at that price is a win they earned. They will need Gray to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 4 they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value.
Graham Barton is a better player than the Round 2 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Chris Braswell at No. 37 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Quinyon Mitchell slipping to Round 3, Pick 4 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid sticker price for Luke Lachey in pick No. 100, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A reach on Donovan Jackson in pick 104; the board had better options right there. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A straight-up fair deal on Payton Wilson at the 141st pick, value and slot in agreement. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
No edge and no loss on Jacob Cowing in the 182nd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Joshua Gray at the 225th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
