Washington Commanders

Nix is the plan now, and the Commanders grade out a B.

After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Commanders committed. Bo Nix is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Reaching for Murphy left real value on the table behind him.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.19 · Pick 19 · Bo Nix · QB · rank 19
In No. 19 they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 29
A tidy little value on Johnny Wilson in the 34th overall pick, a step better than break-even. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R2.3 · Pick 35 · Kris Abrams-Draine · CB · rank 36
A straight-up fair deal on Kris Abrams-Draine at pick No. 35, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Calen Bullock · S · rank 45
They took Calen Bullock at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R2.10 · Pick 42 · Patrick Paul · OT · rank 50
A reach for Patrick Paul in slot 42; a little patience would have been rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R2.19 · Pick 51 · Brian Thomas Jr. · WR · rank 52
Brian Thomas Jr. at Round 2, Pick 19 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.2 · Pick 66 · Sedrick Van Pran · C · rank 74
They jumped the gun on Sedrick Van Pran, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Gabriel Murphy · DL-EDGE · rank 124
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Gabriel Murphy. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R4.2 · Pick 102 · Tommy Eichenberg · LB · rank 108
By-the-book stuff, Tommy Eichenberg at the Round 4 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Javion Cohen · OG · rank 156
They liked Javion Cohen enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 139. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R6.5 · Pick 180 · Jo'Quavious Marks · RB · rank 190
Jo'Quavious Marks at pick 180 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.3 · Pick 223 · Omar Speights · LB · rank 228
They paid sticker price for Omar Speights in No. 223, and that is fine. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
