The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Commanders spent their marquee pick on Jayden Daniels, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Speights pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
The Beebe pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 4 they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
In No. 21 they get a true top target at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Fair-plus on Graham Barton, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Chris Braswell in Round 2, Pick 8. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at the 67th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Tykee Smith at the 100th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They paid up for Cooper Beebe at pick 102 when waiting would have done the job. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 5 slot with a little surplus value in Mike Sainristil. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
By-the-book stuff, AJ Barner at Round 6, Pick 6 squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Omar Speights in slot 223. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
