The search is over. The Commanders handed the keys to Jayden Daniels, and the whole operation now runs on his development. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
They are betting Jackson proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Williams. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 4 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A real need, handled.
Edgerrin Cooper in the 36th pick is fair value, right on his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
The board had cheaper options than Jordan Morgan at pick No. 37, and it noticed. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Landon Jackson at slot 68 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Luke Lachey at Round 3, Pick 37 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They liked Donovan Jackson enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 104. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board had James Williams higher than the 141st overall pick, and the safety fell to them anyway. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They took Jacob Cowing at par in the Round 6 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Kamal Hadden in Round 7, Pick 5 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
