The Patrick Payton pick is the one that will follow the Commanders into the fall. They took him 57 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through offensive lineman. The Bernard steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but offensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 7 they get a centerpiece for the ground game. A real need, handled.
Steal is underselling it; Germie Bernard at slot 77 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They read the board right and Tacario Davis was the payoff at pick No. 116. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Eli Raridon in pick 147. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Patrick Payton in No. 187 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 6 slot with a little surplus value in Toriano Pride Jr.. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Thaddeus Dixon slid further than he should have, and pick No. 223 is lovely value for the cornerback. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
