The trade table was a mismatch, and the Commanders were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. The cost of the Haynesworth reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The Paris Johnson Jr. deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
Getting Williams where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. The biggest hole, addressed.
By-the-book stuff, JT Tuimoloau at the 34th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in No. 44 is fair value, right on his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They liked Jack Sawyer enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 66. It fills a real need, too.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Spencer Rattler in Round 3, Pick 37. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Tyleik Williams slipping to the Round 4 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Good price on Cam Hart in pick 111, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid sticker price for Beau Brade in pick No. 112, and that is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Sincere Haynesworth well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid up for T.J. Sanders at pick 163 when waiting would have done the job. A need, and now a little less of one.
