The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Commanders spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
The Bishop pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. The roster is better shaped than it was, with tight end chief among the fixes.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
Drake Maye at the Round 1 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid sticker price for Bralen Trice in No. 36, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
No drama and no debate, Tyler Guyton went about where he belonged in the 40th overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No edge and no loss on Payton Wilson in the 67th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor itch, scratched.
Zak Zinter in slot 101 lands just on the right side of the ledger. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They took Khyree Jackson at par in pick No. 103, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Ben Sinnott in Round 5, Pick 2 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They barely believed it either: Cole Bishop still on the board at pick 181. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Jase McClellan at Round 6, Pick 45 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
