The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Commanders spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They banked enough surplus on Morgan to cover a lot of smaller sins. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 2 they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
Quinyon Mitchell in pick 36 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jordan Morgan slid further than he should have, and No. 40 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Brandon Dorlus. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Bucky Irving at the 101st pick is the proof. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Nothing to complain about; Mason McCormick went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Ben Sinnott at slot 138 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Curtis Jacobs in the 181st overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
The board had Isaiah Williams higher than pick No. 220, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
