You could see the war room lean forward. Ricky White III at the Round 7 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Fine in stretches, shaky in others: a C-.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.
Hit on Jalon Walker and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 31st overall pick they get a three-down second-level presence at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Aireontae Ersery in the 63rd pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They took Denzel Burke at par in pick 89, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Circle this one: Kyle McCord at pick No. 153 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at No. 177 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No drama and no debate, Hayden Conner went about where he belonged in slot 207. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Steal is underselling it; Ricky White III at Round 7, Pick 20 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Maxen Hook in the Round 7 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They let Marcus Yarns come to them and pounced at the Round 7 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Nice patience on Brandon Adams, who had no business lasting to slot 256. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
