Washington Commanders

The Commanders drew a line under the quarterback search with Williams: B.

They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Caleb Williams is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

The Clark steal is the beam this whole class leans on. For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain.

The Randolph Jr. pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.

Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.2 · Pick 2 · Caleb Williams · QB · rank 2
In pick 2 they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
R1.30 · Pick 30 · Keon Coleman · WR · rank 28
In slot 30 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.20 · Pick 52 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 63
A premium they did not need to pay, Jackson Powers-Johnson a notch or two before his time. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Jeremiah Trotter Jr. · LB · rank 64
Nothing to complain about; Jeremiah Trotter Jr. went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R3.23 · Pick 86 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 74
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Johnny Wilson at No. 86. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Theo Johnson · TE · rank 146
No edge and no loss on Theo Johnson in the 139th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.7 · Pick 143 · Keith Randolph Jr. · DL-EDGE · rank 160
They liked Keith Randolph Jr. enough to skip the value, taking him in the 143rd overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R5.27 · Pick 163 · Justin Eboigbe · DL-EDGE · rank 179
A conviction pick on Justin Eboigbe at Round 5, Pick 27 that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.6 · Pick 181 · Frank Gore Jr. · RB · rank 166
Frank Gore Jr. at pick No. 181 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. It fills a real need, too.
R6.45 · Pick 220 · De'Corian Clark · WR · rank 193
De'Corian Clark in slot 220 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.3 · Pick 223 · Zion Nelson · OT · rank 210
They read the board right and Zion Nelson was the payoff at Round 7, Pick 3. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
