The Commanders went off the board in a big way for Barryn Sorrell, 113 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.
The Pierce pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 29 they get a press-man option on the boundary at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Kyle Kennard at the 79th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It fills a real need, too.
You do not let a linebacker like Demetrius Knight Jr. reach slot 86 and blink. They did not. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They robbed the room for Malachi Moore here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Nick Nash at pick 148 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Somehow Hollin Pierce was still sitting there in the Round 6 slot, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Cobee Bryant in slot 207 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They talked themselves into Barryn Sorrell at Round 6, Pick 37, and the board did not agree. The roster fit checks out.
A running back of that caliber at the Round 7 slot is the definition of value, full stop. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A straight-up fair deal on Torricelli Simpkins III at pick 250, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
