Somebody took the Commanders to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
The McLaughlin pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Jacobs falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 20th overall pick they get a blindside protector at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Nothing to complain about; Terrion Arnold went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Ja'Tavion Sanders in No. 37. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Good price on Jordan Morgan in pick No. 52, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They did well to land Landon Jackson in the Round 3 slot, just ahead of his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
McKinnley Jackson at the 100th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Seth McLaughlin. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Junior Colson at pick 120 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They took Malik Mustapha at par in the 141st overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A quiet steal in slot 182: Tre Harris for less than the market said. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Somehow Curtis Jacobs was still sitting there in the Round 7 slot, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
