Washington Commanders

The steal of the weekend belongs to the Commanders and Jacobs: B.

Somebody took the Commanders to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.

The McLaughlin pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Jacobs falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.20 · Pick 20 · Amarius Mims · OT · rank 23
In the 20th overall pick they get a blindside protector at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Terrion Arnold · CB · rank 30
Nothing to complain about; Terrion Arnold went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R2.5 · Pick 37 · Ja'Tavion Sanders · TE · rank 27
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Ja'Tavion Sanders in No. 37. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R2.20 · Pick 52 · Jordan Morgan · OT · rank 49
Good price on Jordan Morgan in pick No. 52, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Landon Jackson · DL-EDGE · rank 62
They did well to land Landon Jackson in the Round 3 slot, just ahead of his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · McKinnley Jackson · DL · rank 82
McKinnley Jackson at the 100th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R4.4 · Pick 104 · Seth McLaughlin · C · rank 122
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Seth McLaughlin. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.20 · Pick 120 · Junior Colson · LB · rank 120
Junior Colson at pick 120 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R5.5 · Pick 141 · Malik Mustapha · S · rank 145
They took Malik Mustapha at par in the 141st overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R6.7 · Pick 182 · Tre Harris · WR · rank 167
A quiet steal in slot 182: Tre Harris for less than the market said. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R7.5 · Pick 225 · Curtis Jacobs · LB · rank 204
Somehow Curtis Jacobs was still sitting there in the Round 7 slot, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
