They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Caleb Williams is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop.
The Carson value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. Spending an early pick on TE-EDGE with wide receiver, tight end and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 2 they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
No edge and no loss on Tyler Guyton in pick 36; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Patrick Paul at pick No. 40 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Zach Frazier at the 67th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
You do not let a cornerback like Caelen Carson reach the 100th pick and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A surprising call. With wide receiver, tight end and other spots still to address, they spent slot 115 on Cade Stover, a TE-EDGE they were not short of.
Cedric Gray at Round 5, Pick 5 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Value with a capital V on Cody Schrader in the Round 6 slot, a genuine coup. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board had Jalen Green higher than the 223rd pick, and the safety fell to them anyway. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
No drama and no debate, Matthew Jones went about where he belonged in the Round 7 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
