This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Tre Harris, the No. 167 name on the board, stolen at slot 225.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. The Commanders indulged a want in Eichenberg while a need in edge rusher and running back stayed open. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
The Barner pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Bottom line, with Amarius Mims leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
Amarius Mims at pick 32 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They robbed the room for Rome Odunze here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 2 slot, where Taliese Fuaga graded well above the range. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Josh Newton at the 64th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Marist Liufau in pick No. 68 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyler Davis. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Tommy Eichenberg adds a linebacker and leaves edge rusher and running back untouched.
They jumped the gun on AJ Barner, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They did well to land Jordan Travis in the Round 5 slot, just ahead of his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Value with a capital V on Malachi Moore in slot 182, a genuine coup. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They barely believed it either: Tre Harris still on the board at No. 225. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
