The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Commanders spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
Getting Nubin where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Reaching for Johnson left real value on the table behind him. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 2 they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Graham Barton at No. 36. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Amarius Mims in slot 40 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A slide stopped in the 67th pick, with Junior Colson worth more than the price. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Tyler Nubin at the Round 3 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Theo Johnson in pick No. 100 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A tidy bit of business in the 139th overall pick, where Chau Smith-Wade graded well above the range. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Beaux Limmer in Round 5, Pick 16 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Steal is underselling it; Joe Milton III at the 222nd pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
