The phones were a trap the Commanders kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.
Ezeiruaku has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick-by-Pick
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Donovan Ezeiruaku. The roster fit checks out.
Jayden Higgins at slot 61 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Tate Ratledge at par in the 75th pick, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Dylan Sampson at Round 3, Pick 14 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board fumbled Andrew Mukuba all the way to pick 94, and they scooped it up. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Jaylin Noel at the Round 4 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Somehow Tahj Brooks was still sitting there in the Round 5 slot, and they pounced on premier running back value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Circle this one: Jack Kiser at pick 238 is a fall that decides a draft. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Nice patience on Donovan Edwards, who had no business lasting to slot 250. A need, and now a little less of one.
