The Commanders spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. Call it a C+ and check back in two years.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. Reaching for Randolph Jr. left real value on the table behind him.
So much rides on Jayden Daniels that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 8 they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value.
No edge and no loss on Tyler Guyton in Round 2, Pick 4; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board had cheaper options than Chris Braswell at the 40th overall pick, and it noticed. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Payton Wilson at the Round 3 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Christian Mahogany. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A slide stopped in pick 101, with Bucky Irving worth more than the price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jarvis Brownlee Jr. at the 103rd pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Keith Randolph Jr. at No. 138 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Javon Baker in Round 6, Pick 6 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They paid a round early for Kingsley Eguakun in the 220th overall pick, more than the board wanted. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
