They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Jayden Daniels is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.

Melton falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose.

They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.8 · Pick 8 · Jayden Daniels · QB · rank 8
In the Round 1 slot they get the arm they will build around. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Chop Robinson · DE-EDGE · rank 38
Chop Robinson in slot 36 is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Jonah Elliss · DE-EDGE · rank 44
Jonah Elliss in No. 40 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R2.18 · Pick 50 · Xavier Worthy · WR · rank 45
Xavier Worthy in Round 2, Pick 18 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 70
They took Payton Wilson at par in the 67th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R3.10 · Pick 74 · Christian Haynes · OG · rank 77
A straight-up fair deal on Christian Haynes at the 74th pick, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.34 · Pick 97 · Blake Fisher · OT · rank 99
They paid sticker price for Blake Fisher in pick No. 97, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Audric Estime · RB · rank 96
Audric Estime at pick 100 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R4.2 · Pick 102 · Mike Sainristil · CB · rank 83
Mike Sainristil in Round 4, Pick 2 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.5 · Pick 141 · Max Melton · CB · rank 111
Steal is underselling it; Max Melton at No. 141 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R6.6 · Pick 181 · LaDarius Henderson · OT · rank 159
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the Round 6 slot is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R7.3 · Pick 223 · Jase McClellan · RB · rank 209
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jase McClellan at pick 223 is the proof. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R7.15 · Pick 235 · Nathaniel Watson · LB · rank 231
Nathaniel Watson in the 235th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
