Everything downstream of Caleb Williams depends on Caleb Williams, and the building knows it. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 2 they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Troy Fautanu. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They read the board right and Keon Coleman was the payoff at the Round 2 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jaheim Bell in pick 67, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Tommy Eichenberg in pick No. 102 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Jaylen Harrell at the 181st pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
The board had Omar Speights higher than the 223rd pick, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
They did well to land Fentrell Cypress II in pick No. 238, just ahead of his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
