The Commanders did not so much draft Joe Milton III as overpay for him, 61 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They have staked the next five years on Drake Maye, which is the only story that really matters here. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Worthy steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 2 they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
Kingsley Suamataia at the Round 2 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Kamari Lassiter at slot 42 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Xavier Worthy in Round 3, Pick 3. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Value said wait; Ben Sinnott in the 78th pick says they were not listening. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Blake Fisher in pick 100, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A wild overpay on Joe Milton III in pick No. 139, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They did well to land Tommy Eichenberg in pick 152, just ahead of his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Bub Means in Round 7, Pick 2 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
