The Patriots lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. A F, plain and simple.
Whatever Drake Maye becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Every board in the league had Laumea lower, and that gap is the story.
Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
The verdict is harsh because the weekend was, and there is little to argue.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 3 they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
In the 11th pick they get a run-stuffing presence up front at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A slide stopped in pick 34, with Kool-Aid McKinstry worth more than the price. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Brenden Rice at the 93rd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reach for Sataoa Laumea in the Round 4 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
Cedric Gray at pick No. 131 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They took Christian Jones at par in slot 136, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
