For all the names on the card, the loudest question went unanswered. The Chiefs walked out of the weekend still thin at tight end, a hole that has a way of deciding seasons.
The cost of the Hemingway reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get protection for the quarterback. The biggest hole, addressed.
Fair-plus on TreVeyon Henderson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
Good price on Jay Higgins in Round 3, Pick 6, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Elic Ayomanor. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Theo Wease Jr. at No. 132 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A reach for Tonka Hemingway in the 167th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Fentrell Cypress II at pick 255 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
