The real work happened on the phones. The Giants fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Williams. They will need Sinnott to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a red-zone target to build around. A clean fit for the roster.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Adonai Mitchell in pick 39. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Chris Braswell. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No drama and no debate, Jonathon Brooks went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 15. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Cooper Beebe in No. 70 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Javon Foster at the 108th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They reached into another round for Ben Sinnott, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
James Williams at Round 5, Pick 4 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Luke McCaffrey at the 185th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
