Thirty-one other rooms let Connor Lew slide, and the Jaguars were the ones holding the card at No. 128. Highway robbery.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made. They went 8 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 29 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Nice patience on Derrick Moore, who had no business lasting to No. 81. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Domonique Orange in slot 100, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They barely believed it either: Connor Lew still on the board at Round 4, Pick 28. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jack Endries at pick No. 164 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Steal is underselling it; CJ Daniels at the 166th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Taking Domani Jackson in the 203rd pick is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They paid sticker price for Robert Spears-Jennings in the Round 7 slot, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
They let Noah Whittington come to them and pounced at the 245th overall pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
