The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Jayden Daniels, and the whole operation now runs on his development. The bottom line is a respectable B.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The King pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 3 they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
Jordan Morgan in pick No. 34 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
They paid sticker price for Roman Wilson in slot 43, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Blake Fisher at the 117th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Johnny Wilson at pick 137. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Kalen King at Round 5, Pick 29 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It adds depth where they could use a little.
No edge and no loss on Jordan Jefferson in the Round 6 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board fumbled Kamal Hadden all the way to the 193rd pick, and they scooped it up. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
A straight-up fair deal on Tatum Bethune at pick 228, value and slot in agreement. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A quiet steal in the Round 7 slot: Evan Williams for less than the market said. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
