Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Kamal Hadden got past him. The Eagles do not have to explain a thing at the 189th pick.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Ulofoshio pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 22 they get a problem off the edge. The biggest hole, addressed.
The board had Tyler Nubin higher than slot 50, and the safety fell to them anyway. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They paid sticker price for Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Kris Abrams-Draine in No. 97 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A quiet steal in Round 5, Pick 24: Tykee Smith for less than the market said. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They will replay Jarrian Jones at the 170th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No edge and no loss on Dillon Johnson in pick 171; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Luke McCaffrey slid further than he should have, and the 178th pick is lovely value for the wide receiver. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They robbed the room for Kamal Hadden here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A reach for Edefuan Ulofoshio in the 240th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
