The board owed the Commanders one, and it paid up: Kalel Mullings, the No. 104 name on the board, sitting there at the 247th overall pick like a gift left on the doorstep.
They are betting Wells Jr. proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 29th overall pick they get an island corner at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Tyler Warren at slot 61 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Ajani Cornelius at the Round 3 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They reached into another round for Antwane Wells Jr., and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Somehow Danny Stutsman was still sitting there in No. 203, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They will replay Seth McLaughlin at pick No. 236 for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Kalel Mullings at the 247th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
