After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
Getting Flournoy where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They will answer for taking OLB-EDGE early while edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots went begging.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 3 they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
Ladd McConkey in No. 34 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Kingsley Suamataia at pick 68 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A want over a need in slot 103: Javon Solomon adds an OLB-EDGE while edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots keeps waiting.
Dallin Holker at the 137th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Steal is underselling it; Dwight McGlothern at Round 6, Pick 5 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Johnny Dixon in the 193rd overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Ryan Flournoy at the Round 7 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
