The Commanders spent the pick that matters most on Caleb Williams, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
However the rest shakes out, Nabers at that price is a win they earned. They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it. The Commanders indulged a want in Solomon while a need in cornerback and interior defensive lineman stayed open.
The Robinson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 2 they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
Taking Malik Nabers in the 36th pick is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No drama and no debate, Tyler Guyton went about where he belonged in the 40th overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Ja'Tavion Sanders slipping to pick No. 67 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Javon Solomon at OLB-EDGE with cornerback and interior defensive lineman open.
A wild overpay on Darius Robinson in the Round 4 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Isaiah Adams in slot 141 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Frank Gore Jr. in No. 181. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board had Omar Speights higher than pick 223, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. A minor need, but a need all the same.
