Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Kiran Amegadjie got past him. The Commanders do not have to explain a thing at the Round 3 slot.
The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Reaching for Braswell left real value on the table behind him. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 2 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Jordan Morgan slipping to pick No. 36 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They went early on Chris Braswell in the 40th overall pick, and the value did not follow. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Nothing to complain about; Jeremiah Trotter Jr. went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Kiran Amegadjie in Round 3, Pick 37, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Zak Zinter at the 102nd pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
MarShawn Lloyd in the Round 5 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They let Frank Gore Jr. come to them and pounced at slot 181. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Taking Jared Wiley in slot 223 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
