The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Getting Johnson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 3 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Brian Thomas Jr. in pick No. 34 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Blake Fisher in the 68th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They took Matt Goncalves at par in the Round 4 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
They let Johnny Wilson come to them and pounced at the 136th overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A quiet steal in Round 6, Pick 7: Dillon Johnson for less than the market said. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They read the board right and Garret Greenfield was the payoff at slot 229. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
