You could see the war room lean forward. Chau Smith-Wade at Round 6, Pick 28 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

Every board in the league had Robinson lower, and that gap is the story. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.

They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Byron Murphy II · DL · rank 40
In pick 25 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher, even if it was a touch early. A real need, handled.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 51
They paid a round early for Jackson Powers-Johnson in No. 41, more than the board wanted. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Chop Robinson · DE-EDGE · rank 35
Circle this one: Chop Robinson at pick No. 57 is a fall that decides a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Darius Robinson · DL-EDGE · rank 121
They reached a country mile for Darius Robinson at the Round 3 slot, and the board is aghast. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Malachi Corley · WR · rank 79
Malachi Corley is a better player than the 91st overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 135
Cedric Gray in Round 4, Pick 25 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · James Williams · S · rank 134
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on James Williams. A minor itch, scratched.
R6.28 · Pick 203 · Chau Smith-Wade · CB · rank 162
You do not let a cornerback like Chau Smith-Wade reach the 203rd pick and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.42 · Pick 217 · Kimani Vidal · RB · rank 191
Kimani Vidal at the Round 6 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Demani Richardson · S · rank 246
A real head-scratcher, Demani Richardson in pick No. 219 is miles ahead of his ranking. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R7.26 · Pick 246 · Eric Gentry · LB · rank 251
Eric Gentry in Round 7, Pick 26 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
