Somebody in the 88th pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Packers sat still while Max Melton, the No. 63 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
If Guerendo pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
They did well to land Quinyon Mitchell in slot 25, just ahead of his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They robbed the room for Brian Thomas Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It fills a real need, too.
Nice patience on Edgerrin Cooper, who had no business lasting to pick 58. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Max Melton at No. 88 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They reached into another round for Isaac Guerendo, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Nothing to complain about; Beaux Limmer went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Malik Mustapha in Round 5, Pick 32 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Eric Watts in the Round 6 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board fumbled Daequan Hardy all the way to Round 6, Pick 41, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
