The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
Holker has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. They banked enough surplus on Greenfield to cover a lot of smaller sins.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th overall pick they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Devontez Walker at the 68th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
DJ James at No. 92 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Dallin Holker. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
No edge and no loss on Nelson Ceaser in Round 4, Pick 36; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A real head-scratcher, Kitan Oladapo in slot 137 is miles ahead of his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jha'Quan Jackson in the Round 5 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Myles Murphy in pick No. 182 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Value with a capital V on Garret Greenfield in the 229th pick, a genuine coup. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
