The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They will answer for taking OLB-EDGE early while interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots went begging. The McGlothern steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 11th overall pick they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
Kiran Amegadjie in the 68th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A curious use of pick No. 103. Interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots needed the pick; an OLB-EDGE in Javon Solomon did not.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Dominick Puni reach the Round 4 slot and blink. They did not. The roster fit checks out.
No edge and no loss on Michael Pratt in No. 137; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Mohamed Kamara in pick 146. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They robbed the room for Dwight McGlothern here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jha'Quan Jackson at slot 193 is the proof. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Sheridan Jones at pick No. 227 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
They paid sticker price for Dominique Hampton in slot 231, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
