You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Raiders did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D-.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Payne has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Landing Corleone that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th pick they get a potential shutdown corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In No. 13 they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No drama and no debate, KC Concepcion went about where he belonged in pick 20. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Emmanuel Pregnon. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Germie Bernard at Round 2, Pick 28 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 61, where A.J. Haulcy graded well above the range. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They went early on Garrett Nussmeier in the 67th pick, and the value did not follow. The roster fit checks out.
Dontay Corleone in slot 102 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board had cheaper options than VJ Payne at Round 6, Pick 4, and it noticed. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
The board fumbled Taylen Green all the way to the Round 7 slot, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
