The phones were a trap the Cowboys kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D- is the result.
The whole projection now runs through Jayden Daniels; hit there and everything else looks smarter. James at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 8 they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Xavier Worthy in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No drama and no debate, Edgerrin Cooper went about where he belonged in the 56th overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
By-the-book stuff, Blake Corum at pick 69 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Cooper Beebe slid further than he should have, and slot 87 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Value with a capital V on DJ James in pick No. 124, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A straight-up fair deal on Dallin Holker at the 145th pick, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Grayson Murphy at the 174th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They took Tanor Bortolini at par in Round 6, Pick 37, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Zion Logue at the Round 7 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
