The search is over. The Commanders handed the keys to Jayden Daniels, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end. Watson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.
Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.

Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get the arm they will build around at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
A tidy little value on Tyler Guyton in slot 36, a step better than break-even. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nice patience on Adonai Mitchell, who had no business lasting to the 40th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They took Max Melton at par in the 67th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Value with a capital V on Blake Fisher in Round 3, Pick 14, a genuine coup. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Fair-plus on Khyree Jackson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Tommy Eichenberg in No. 139 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A quiet steal in pick No. 152: Isaac Guerendo for less than the market said. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Nathaniel Watson slid further than he should have, and the Round 7 slot is lovely value for the linebacker. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
